My soulful and intimate connection with clay is expressed through my process of hand building organic garden sculpture and utilitarian ware. I work with high fire and mid-range porcelain and stoneware. My process explores surfaces with textured layers, markings, organic shapes, and rich earth tones to create ceramic vessels that evoke a presence. Combing wheel thrown and hand building techniques: extrusion, pinch, coil and slab, I incorporate patterns from my grandmothers’ linen, wall paper, and landscape elements from my native garden into my clay designs. My work reflects a presence of nature, history and nostalgia, while enriching personal use.
